Nails by Asami: Criminal Minds Garcia Nails

Criminal Minds fans, I’ve just heard the news that CBS has made the decision to cut J.J. entirely next season and reduce Prentiss’ role on the show. This will leave Garcia as the only female lead in a show that represents an already male-dominated career, and she’s not even one of the main profilers, she’s the technical analyst.

If it was unavoidable for CBS to cut two-thirds of their female cast, then I’m glad they decided to keep Garcia. The show is very dark and sadistic at times and Garcia’s animated personality is the necessary lightheartedness that the show requires to keep it from becoming too depressing.

Criminal Minds has spoiled me to a point that I no longer enjoy other crime shows. When I watch others I’m like, “Okay, cool, so that’s what happened. BUT WHY?” The character development on Minds never leaves out the psychology behind what would cause someone to commit crimes, why they are the way they are and what that means in terms of their motivations. This is why I love the show, and why I’ve decided to pay a little homage to our only remaining main female cast member, Garcia.

Garcia has a quirky, eclectic sense of style that’s usually focused around a particular color scheme for each look. Her nails are equally full of personality, as they are never just one color.

As you can see in the photo above, Garcia is sporting a purple and berry themed mix and match manicure.

The key to choosing colors for Garcia style nails is to pick a particular color scheme and don’t stray. There’s something called a “Skittles” manicure in which every nail is a different rainbow color, but honestly that has to be my least favorite nail trend of the last five years. If you’re going for a mix and match effect, I highly recommend sticking to a color theme.

For Garcia Nails, choose only four polishes. I know the natural impulse would be to choose five, one for each finger, but you should actually paint your thumb in the same color as your middle, ring or pinky finger. Because your thumb is the furthest from your other fingers, repeating one color will help pull your look together and add a sense of coordination.

The index polish is OPI’s “Give Me Moor!” followed by Zoya’s “Lael.” My ring finger is sporting Sephora by OPI’s “Don’t Go There” and my pinky is Zoya’s “Sofia” (which is what I repeated on my thumb, not pictured.)

If the previous color scheme isn’t summery enough for you, here’s another example of Garcia Nails based around the color scheme from another of the character’s outfits.

This one is very bold and fun. Because the blue stands out the most in this color scheme, I only chose one blue polish so as not to overpower the other colors.

My index finger is Sephora by OPI’s “Access 24/7,” (which happens to be one of my favorite jellies in the whole world by the way.) My middle finger is Orly’s “Pixy Stix,” ring is OPI’s “No Room for the Blues” and my pinky is Sephora by OPI’s “I’m Wired.”

Garcia nails are a little crazy, but definitely lively and enjoyable to wear. If like me, this isn’t something you would typically wear then give a try anyway; it’s summer, have fun!
